Propecia vs Finasteride
Propecia is the branded version of Finasteride; both products are identical in ingredients and are manufactured the same way.
What is Finasteride used for?
Finasteride tablets are a generic of Propecia, and is a treatment for hair loss in males. It is used in early forms of male pattern hair loss. This is also known as androgenetic alopecia. Finasteride works reducing the amount of DHT which is one of the main hormones responsible for causing male pattern baldness.
How to take Finasteride
Finasteride tablets should be taken as advised by your doctor or pharmacist. The recommended dosage is generally one tablet daily, and should be swallowed whole and not broken or crushed. The treatment will not work more effectively if it is taken more than once a day. Please refer to the patient information leaflet within the box for more accurate dosage instructions. Do not take this treatment if you are currently taking Finasteride or dutasteride.
Are there any side effects?
Side effects of Finasteride tablets can vary and do not affect everybody. Please consult your doctor or pharmacist if you experience any unusual side effects as a result of this treatment.
What is Propecia used for?
Propecia is a hair loss treatment which prevents testosterone converting to dihydrotestosterone, or DHT. It is commonly used in the treatment of male pattern hair loss which is a condition where the male experiences thinning of the hair around the scalp. Male pattern baldness can begin with a receding hairline or balding at the top of the head. The active ingredient contained in Propecia is 1mg of Finasteride, which can also be used to treat prostate enlargement, but only in higher doses.
How to take Propecia
Propecia tablets should be taken exactly as your pharmacist or doctor has advised. You should check if you are unsure. The recommended dosage is one tablet a day orally. It is important to know that the treatment will not work any better if more than one dosage is consumed per day. Propecia is not suitable for women or children.
Are there any side effects?
While side effects do not necessarily affect everyone, they can still occur depending on the individuals’ circumstances. If you encounter any side effects as a result of using Propecia tablets, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
