Chlamydia Antibiotics

Antibiotics are prescribed to treat Chlamydia infection. The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) provides national guidance and advice to improve health and social care. Doxycycline is now first-line treatment for Chlamydia and recommended by NICE Guidelines. Medicines2U follows NICE Guidelines and therefore advice on taking first-line treatment medication which is been recommended by NICE - in case if you are allergic to this medication, you can then try the alternative antibiotics to treat Chlamydia infection.

Chlamydia Treatment Course

To treat Chlamydia infection, (in a pain packaging) you will be provided with 14 capsules that you should take over the course of 7 days (2 caspules per day) OR 4 tablets that you should take over 3 days.
Swallow the capsules whole with a full glass of water (full glass= at least 150ml), while sitting or standing. It is important not to lie down for at least thirty minutes after taking the capsules.
Take your capsules at the same times each day during meals.

Things to consider whilst taking antibiotics:

  • Protect your skin from sunlight, even on a bright but cloudy day.
  • Do not use sunbeds.
  • The medication can cause photosensitivity.
  • Do not take indigestion remedies or medicines containing iron or zinc, 2 hours before or after you take this medicine.
  • Separate the doses as far apart as possible.
  • Alcohol reduces the effect of antibiotics (Doxycycline). It is therefore advisable to avoid drinking any alcohol whilst taking Doxycycline.
  • If you are taking the oral contraceptive pill, you should use additional contraceptive precautions during and for at least 7 days after stopping treatment.

Home Test Kit for Chlamydia (STI) & Gonorrhoea (STD)

If you have had unprotected sex and you think that you may have been infected with either chlamydia or gonorrhoea, we can send you a test to carry out in the comfort of your own home. You should wait 14 days after unprotected sex before taking the test as it can taken up to 2 weeks for the infection to show.

You can also carry out the test as a general health check or when meeting a new partner as precaution. The simple urine test will check for genital chlamydia and genital gonorrhoea.

We will send you a test kit box which includes:

• A urine collection box

• A urine sample tube

• Protective packing wallet

• A request form

• Pre-Paid envelope to The Doctors Laboratory (TDL)

How to conduct the test:

1. Simply collect your urine in the collection box and transfer this into the sample tube.

2. Fill out the date you collected your urine and send this using the free-post bag provided with the test kit.

3.This will be sent to the Doctors Laboratory who will then send the results to us.

4. Your results will be received within a week of your sample reaching the lab. We will contact you with your results via your preferred method. If you have chlamydia, we are able to offer you treatment with antibiotics. If you are infected with gonorrhea, we will refer you to your local GUM clinic or GP for treatment. Please ensure all details are correct on your sample as any incorrect or missing information may cause a delay.

99.9% Test Accuracy:

The test is 99.9% accurate and will give a clear indication of whether you have genital chlamydia or genital gonorrhea. The test will not detect any other sexually transmitted infections or any infections in the throat or anus, if you have had unprotected oral or anal sex, visit your local GUM clinic or GP to get tested.

It is recommended to take the urine sample on the day of sending it off to the lab. Usually the sample will be received the next day for testing - please check your post office cut off time.

The Doctors Laboratory is the largest independent provider of clinical laboratory diagnostic services in the UK.
