Azithromycin 500mg belongs to a class of drugs called macrolide antibiotics and is used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections. Azithromycin is available on Medicines2U to treat chlamydia and is prescribed as a 4 tablet treatment (3 day course).
Azithromycin is one of the most effective treatments for chlamydia, it destroys the bacteria that causes the infection and prevents them from producing proteins required for them to survive. There has been a new updated dosage for chlamydia and 4 tablets will now be prescribed as a 3 day course.
